Nunawading Cricket Club – Junior Weekly Update

Hi everyone – after a weekend off, Junior Cricket returns this weekend!! Tomorrow night post match, we will be having Roast Chicken, together with salads. We will also have sausages and vegie burgers. It will be great to see as many families as possible upstairs to hear how our children performed.

Supervision of Your Children
A serious and important message. Whilst at Nunawading, we will always do all we can to ensure the safety of your children, our expectation is that parents are responsible for their children at all times. All sports carry risks of injury, and when using a hard ball, there are additional risks at play. The Club expects that’s parents will be at games and training, not just from a responsibility perspective, but also from an enjoyment perspective. Where this is not possible, the club expects that a family will ensure another parent is responsible for their child on that day/night.

Our Coaches are volunteer parents – who have given up their time to help all. Something we are very grateful for. With that in mind, if an injury does occur, and a parent is not there – outside of applying a band aid or some ice – our coaches will always err on the side of caution – and most likely call an ambulance. It is for this very reason that it is preferred that a parent is at the ground – being responsible for their own child.

The Club does understand that this is not always practical, however there have been a number of situations this season, where families have dropped their children off – and have not returned to collect their child until 30+ minutes after the completion of a game. This is unfair on our coaches, who then try to contact parents and have to stay with your child.

Again – I don’t want this to sound like a negative message – more so an important one – to ensure the safety of your child and the enjoyment for them. If this creates an issue for anyone, please let me know.

‘MAX ZERO’ – Band Night
On Saturday 17 November, ‘Max Zero’ will be performing at Nunawading – playing your favorite 70s, 80s and 90s songs!! Entry is only $10 per person, with drinks at Bar Prices. Further information attached – but this will be a great fun night!! All junior parents welcome to attend. (If you are planning on attending, please also just let me know).

Curry Night
A reminder that Curry Night is on Friday 30 November – only three weeks away. The way it works is that we ask families (who can) to make a curry/rice/noodle dish and bring them along to the club for our Post Match gathering. All the curries and rice dishes are then available for everyone to try. If you donate a curry, there is no charge. If not, we simply ask for $5 a plate. We also have sausage sizzle for those who may not be so keen on a spicy meal. If you can cook/donate a curry, please let me know.

Grill’d

As mentioned last week, Nunawading Cricket Club has been selected to participate in the Grill’d (Burwood One Store – Corner of Burwood Hwy and Blackburn Rd) Local Matters in the month of November.

There are three ‘jars’ in store – one for three different Community organisatioons (In November, Nunawading is one of them). When you buy a burger, you receive a token – which you then choose which jar to put in. At the end of the month, each Local Community Group receives some money from Grill’d (depending who has the most tokens in their jar!!

Therefore, please if you are feeling hungry, pop into Grill’d for some great burgers – and help Nuna receive some money!

Junior Manager required for 2019/2020 season

Good afternoon Nunawading family,

I am writing to let you all know (very early) that at the end of this season our Junior Manager Robert Nash will be stepping down after 6 years at the helm.

We are looking for someone to step up and take over this role while Rob is still around, so he can help guide them through what is required.

Rob is not running away and will be able to offer advice to the new person/s – while still allowing the new person to put their own unique ideas into the role – to continually build the club.

Rob is very happy to be a backup as needed.

If you are even remotely interested in this role, please feel free to speak to myself or Rob.

Rob has detailed information of what is required and when and will be happy to speak to you.

Thanks,

Jean-Paul Lefebure

Vice President

Nunawading Cricket Club – Junior Weekly Update

Hi everyone

Just a reminder that this weekend, there are no Junior Matches or Junior Blasters – due to the Long weekend. Training is as per your coaches/Team Managers notifications. It was great to see our Saturday Super 7 Team play their first game last week – and also our Girls team also have their first game on Wednesday (where they won their first Stage 3 Game)!!

At this time, I would like to thank all the parents who are helping out and organising teams in any way – especially the Coaches and Team Managers. Special thanks to Jason Griffiths, Simon and Neroli Rush, Nick Rodman and Andrew Northfield – who have helped get our Super 7 Teams up and running. Jason, Simon and Neroli have been at the club for a number of years in the Milo program – whilst Nick and Andrew (and their families) are new to Nuna this season. Massive thanks to you all – and again, all the other families who contribute to get the children playing cricket. As a Community Club, this is where it all starts!!

Curry Night
A reminder that Curry Night is on Friday 30 November. Our world famous curry night, over the years, has been a great success. The way it works is that we ask families (who can) to make a curry/rice/noodle dish and bring them along to the club for our Post Match gathering. All the curries and rice dishes are then available for everyone to try. If you donate a curry, there is no charge. If not,we simply ask for $5 a plate. We also have sausage sizzle for those who may not be so keen on a spicy meal. If you can cook/donate a curry, please let me know.

Under 18 4.50pm – 5.00pm

Bunnings BBQ’s
One of the ways the club is able to keep costs down, is to secure Bunnings BBQs. This is a great way to raise funds from non Nuna people. We have two upcoming BBQs at Vermont South, namely Sunday 18 November 2018 and (Boxing Day) 26 December 2018. We have placed rosters in the club rooms for two hour shifts. If you can assist, please write your name down on the roster tomorrow night (or let me know). There are still a number of vacant shifts that we are looking to fill.

Nunawading Cricket Club – Junior Weekly Update

Hi everyone

Well after our season launch last Friday, we are certainly right into the season (except for our Girls Team and our Saturday Super 7s, who both yet have not played due to other teams forfeiting and wash outs)!! – Thanks to everyone who hopefully is enjoying the season so far!! Tomorrow night, we will have Super Burgers (including Vegie Burgers) and Sausages.

Weather
Speaking of washouts, just a reminder to everyone that unless you hear from your Coach or Team Manager, all games are deemed to proceed. All players are expected to turn up at the ground – and then both teams will make an assessment as to the weather and if the ground/conditions are fit to play cricket.

Curry Night
Friday 30 November, will be our world famous curry night. Over the years, this night has been a great success. The way it works is that we ask families (who can) to make a curry/rice/noodle dish and bring them along to the club for our Post Match gathering. All the curries and rice dishes are then available for everyone to try. If you donate a curry, there is no charge. If not we simply ask for $5 a plate. We also have sausage sizzle for those who may not be so keen on a spicy meal. If you can donate a curry, please let me know.

Team Photos
We will once again be doing team photos this season. These photos have also been a great success, and also allow the club to have permanent memories of our teams in our club rooms. Dates for Team Photos are as follows:

Sunday 25 November:

Girls Anna Lanning 3.45pm – 4.00pm (training starting at 4.00pm)

Again this season, all our Juniors (excluding Junior Blasters) will receive a Melbourne Stars or Melbourne Renegades 2 game membership. I am in the process of finalising the applications, so f you have not yet indicated which team you support, please let me know,

If anyone has any queries, please let me know.

Nunawading Cricket Club – Junior Weekly Update

Hi everyone – how great was it to have cricket starting over the last week. I hope everyone enjoyed their time at Nuna – including our first Friday night community night.

Given I have bombarded you with information over the last few weeks – I will try and keep this weeks email short!!

Season launch – Tomorrow – Friday 19 October
Tomorrow night is our Junior season launch. Not only will we have an opportunity to all come together and celebrate how our children went in round 1, we will also be having some special presentations. With Piccolinos pizza, sausages and a cold drink – together with great weather, it will be a fantastic night. If you can only attend a few Friday nights a season, tomorrow is one that I strongly recommend you get to.

For those new to the club – on these big nights, we have two separate deliveries of pizza – one in time for when the Junior Blasters and Super 7s finish – and then another after the older Juniors finish.

Blackburn Lake Primary School
Further to my email last week, as a Club, it was great to have such a fantastic opportunity to be at Blackburn Lake Primary School for the ‘SpringFest’ last Saturday. Special thanks to Daniel ‘Smudge’ Smith, his better half Claire Smith, Scott Witherden, Kevin Rose’Meyer, Aks Tidwala, Luisa Mackie, Caz and Angus Clarkson – who all came to the Primary School and helped promote the club. I understand that Aks, Smudge and Luisa all got very close to Star Man!!! Special mention to Lachlan, Isabella and Joshua Smith as well – for spending their day supporting Nuna as well – our Club is in great hands.

Registration and Subs Payment
If you have not yet registered or paid subs – please can you do so. This will be the last week I ask this (before I follow up individually). If anyone is having problems with this, please let me know. No child misses out on playing cricket at Nuna for financial reasons.

We are still looking for new players in all age groups – so please ask your family and friends if they are interested.

Well – I have kept it short and quick this week!! As I said, please support our Season Launch tomorrow – it will be a great night – with some very special presentations.

Nunawading Cricket Club – Weekly Junior Update – No.2

Hi everyone – apologies for the second Weekly email this week – but just a few more announcements before we start the season tonight – in beautiful sunny weather

Apparel
I need to clarify my poorly written update from a few days ago. We have put in a couple of apparel orders, with our supplier – but at this stage, have not yet received new stock. If you ordered you apparel on Registration Day, we are hopeful we will have that next week. Any apparel ordered after that may still be a few weeks away, although we do have some stock which we will be in contact with you – if it meets your requirements.

Therefore, if you don’t have a white Nuna shirt for the first few weeks, please feel free to wear a white/light t-shirt or polo. Additionally, a cap/hat that you also have at home is fine.

Blackburn Lake Primary School – Cricket Clinics and School Fete
This week, in conjunction with Cricket Victoria, we have run School Clinics at Blackburn Lake Primary School. This has been a fantastic success – and is also the first time we have done this at Blackburn Lake. This is a great way to promote the game of cricket – and hopefully have some more families join Nunawading. Additionally, it helps us build great relationships with Schools – something that we at Nunawding believe is very important. Already this week, we have a number of families who have registered in our Junior Blasters program from Blackburn Lake. Special thanks to Pete Jessup, Rob Ferdinands (Club Coach), Daniel ‘Smudge’ Smith, Claire Smith and Roger Harrison (Club Treasurer) who in their own time helped run the clinics. Also thanks to Clinton Keenan and Sam Norman from Cricket Victoria for running the clinics. We look forward to continuing to work with you. Finally, a massive thanks to Jean-Paul Lefebure and the company he works for – for once again providing us with promotional flyers for Nunawading. Don’t forget, for any printing needs, please contact:

M Print Colour Printers for all your printing needs
Contact: Jean-Paul Lefebure

Ph: 0438 538 012
42 Shearson Crescent, Mentone
http://www.mprint.net.au

Tomorrow – we are extending our relationship with Blackburn Lake, by having a stand at their fete. The ‘Spring Fest’ is a massive community event – and we have been invited to run a Cricket Clinic at the fete. We are therefore looking for a number of people to help run some clinics at the Fete tomorrow between 11.00am and 4.00pm. Please if you can help out for an hour or two, please let me know. Additionally, please support our Community Partner – and pop into the fete – more details via the link below:

http://www.blps.vic.edu.au/articles/44

First Aid
In order to keep our players, families, members and community safe we will be having a new automatic defibrillator installed into the clubrooms on Tuesday 23rd October. Additionally, St John Ambulance training to use the machine for up to 20 club members will be held as follows:

Training Time: approx. 7.30pm to 9.30pm

Training Location: Mahoneys Reserve, Mahoneys Road, FOREST HILL,VIC 3131

If you would like to be trained to use the defib please let me know via return email.

As part of our medical emergency plan we also require to have at least one trained first aid officer (preferably more). Can you please let me know if you have current Level 1 first aid qualifications and would be happy to be listed at the club as a First Aid Officer?

As a club, we may also consider running an in-house first aid training course (at the individual’s expense) for all members. Please let me know if you would be keen to attend this training.

Well – that should be it until tonight. I hope everyone enjoys the cricket over the next week – and please come upstairs tonight, to enjoy a SUPER BURGER, VEGIE BURGER or sausage in bread and a cold drink – while we hear how our Children went.

….oh, and by the way – I understand there is a chance that the Melbourne Star’s ‘Star Man’ may make an appearance tonight!!!!!

Nunawading Cricket Club – Junior Weekly Update

Hi everyone – well, it all starts this weekend!! Let the cricket begin!!

Friday Night – Community Night
After matches, Junior Blasters and training on Friday, please everyone come up stairs for SUPER BURGERS and SAUSAGES, a cold drink – and most importantly hear how our children performed. The weather is looking great – so it should be a beautiful night.

This is one of the aspects of our club which makes us unique. For those families new to Nunawading, this is a weekly way we celebrate our Children’s cricket – and allows us as a community to come together as well. There is obviously no compulsion to do so, however everyone is welcome to attend for whatever amount of time they can!! I would also suggest that everyone has a great time!! Having over 200 people through the Club Rooms on a Friday night is something we should all feel great about.

Season Launch – Friday 19 October

The following Friday, we will have our Season Launch. This will be one of our themed Friday nights. At our season launch, we will have pizza – and also some important announcements for the season ahead and presentations celebrating the end of last season.

Sponsor of the Week
It is timely to advise that we are fortunate to have Piccolino Pizza sponsor the club again this year. John, Simon and the team are great supporters of Nunawading. Not only sponsoring us, but providing ‘Player of the Match’ awards (which includes a small pizza and drink) for our children – one per each team per week. Additionally, as a Member of Nunawading you receive a discount on take away pizzas with the presentation of your Member Card (if you have not yet received yours, please let me know). Please support Piccolinos either their Restaurant or Take Away – and always say ‘thanks from Nunawading’!!

Commencement of Matches
If at this stage, you are unsure of what team your child is in, please let me know ASAP. All matches start in the coming week:

  • U12, U14, U16, U18 – Friday 12 October
  • Junior Blasters – Friday 12 October
  • Super 7s and Fast 9s – Saturday 13 / Sunday 14 October (Training Friday 12 October 6.00pm – 7.15pm)
  • Girls Team – Wednesday 17 October

Training for all teams is also now as per coach’s advices – and have settled into what will be normal for the season ahead.

We are still very happy to have new players attend at Nunawading, so if you know of anyone wanting to play cricket – please let me know!!

Additionally, if you have not yet registered or paid Subs, please can you do so at your convenience.

Apparel
As soon as we have your apparel, we will let you know. The club has put in two orders on the last 6 weeks – and also has some limited additional stock available. If you have not yet ordered apparel, please do so. We require children to play in a Nunawading shirt and purple cap (excludes Junior Blasters).

Junior Blasters – Kits
As forecast a couple of weeks ago, it does appear Cricket Australia have had some challenges getting participation kits to children. I understand all registered families will have received an email advising of the delay from Cricket Australia. There is still hope that they will arrive before Friday – however if not, please feel free to have your child wear a T-shirt or other suitable top (depending n the weather).

I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow night – any questions, please let me know.
