Nunawading Cricket Club – Junior Weekly Update

Hi everyone

Well cricket is back this week!! Tomorrow night in our Club Rooms, we will be having Super Burgers and sausages. With our U12 and U18 teams having byes for the next two weeks, and our U14 and U16 teams playing away, it will still be great to have those families come to our rooms afterwards. Please come upstairs, and enjoy hearing how our Juniors are going.

Tomorrow night, we will be having our two Super 7 teams play some match simulation as part of their training. Our U18 team are encouraged to come and assist with the organizing of the match (I know Kev will be there) – especially as our Super 7 coaches will be taking part in the ‘Coach the Coaches’ session (see below)!!

‘Coach the Coaches’ – Coaching Course
As I mentioned last week, with the unusual situation of not having any matches at home for the next two Fridays, we are taking the opportunity to do a few different things. It has been a great response by coaches/parents to attend the ‘Coach the Coach’s session’ – being run by Club Coach Rob Ferdinands. Last week I advised the course would start at 6.00pm, however we are looking to make this a 5.30pm start – which will finish around 8.00pm. If you are still interested in attending, please let me know.

I will be sending an email out to all those who have advised they are attending later this morning. If you do not receive this from me, please let me know (as I may have inadvertently left you off my list)!

Representative Cricket
Last week when I mentioned Representative Cricket, I omitted Harini Piduguralla. Harini, who plays in our Girls Team, played in the under 14 Youth Premier League. The team went on and won the Grand Final. Congratulations Harini !!

Also since last week, Jim Jessup and Max Waburton, played in the Grand Final of the U15 Shield team for Box Hill. Whilst the team were eventual Runners Up (a great achievement), both Max and Jim had strong impacts on the match.

Finally for this week, Eloise Wood (who is a young U12), represented BHRDCA in U12 Girls Rep team. Her team also made the Grand Final – where Eloise took three wickets! This is an amazing effort – Well done Eloise.

Congratulations to all representative cricketers

Trivia Night
The Clubs annual Trivia Night is on Saturday 2 March (Flyer attached). As many would know, this is always a fun event – that many Junior families go to. Please refer to flyer attached with more information. Please don’t feel like you need to get a full table to attend – even a small group will work well!!

Melbourne Stars – Product Recall
The Melbourne Stars have late yesterday announced a Product recall. They have advised the following, and asked clubs to pass on:

‘We have been made aware that Melbourne Stars promotional LED wristbands containing button batteries contain small parts that could cause severe risk of injury if ingested by small children. We recommend any Stars fans who collected the wristbands to immediately and safely dispose of these wristbands by wrapping in paper and disposing in household rubbish’.

Junior Presentation – Nunawading Cricket Club
Our Junior Presentation evening, will be on Friday 15 March. Please lock this date in your calendars – more details in coming weeks.

Nunawading Cricket Club – Holiday Update

Hi everyone

I hope everyone is/has enjoyed their Christmas/New Year/Holiday break. As we all start to see the ‘Back to School’ sales (sorry Juniors – however the time is close), our attention turns to cricket starting next week. Some of our older Juniors have already started training – and we have also had a number of Nunawading Junior Cricketers playing representative cricket in December/January – which is fantastic.

Coaching Course
At Nunawading, we are very fortunate to have two ‘Level Three’ accredited coaches (Level Three, can only be obtained via nomination/invitation from Cricket Australia). Our coaches – namely Club Coach Rob Ferdinands and also Leigh Callander – both work with the seniors, and have had great success working with some of our Juniors as well.

On Friday 1 February (6.00pm – 8.00pm), Rob and Leigh will be holding a two hour coaching course (Coach the Coaches) for Nunawading Coaches/parents. This will be a great opportunity to hear from Rob and Leigh, who will not only talk about coaching styles and methods, they will also introduce some drills which you can use. At Nunawading (like all clubs) – our success is built on parents helping out, and this includes coaching teams. If you are interested in understanding coaching a bit more – then this is a great opportunity. Please let me know if you are interested, as we are keen to have a good number of Mums and Dads attend.

Community Involvement
As always, Nunawading is always looking to promote Community Involvement, and work with other Community Groups. The Lions Club of Forest Hill – who do amazing work – are in need of some new Members, so that this work can be continued. I am sure we have all heard of the Lions Club – however if you are interested to learn a little bit more about what they do, and what is involved, please refer to the attached brochure. There is no harm in making a phone call – one which may just ensure the work of Forest Hill branch continues.

Representative Cricket
As I mentioned in December, a number of our cricketers played various forms of representative cricket over summer. These included:

U18 – Joshua Richardson (BHRDCA)
U18 – Cameron Clark (BHRDCA)
U18 – Rohan Roy (BHRDCA)
U16 – Daniel Castelow (RCA)
U15 – James Jessup (Box Hill Shield)
U15 – Max Warburton (Box Hill Shield)
U14 – Kaelan Scully (BHRDCA)
U12 – Vaishnavi Munukutla (Victorian Team)
U12 – Eloise Wood (BHRDCA)

If I have left anyone off, please let me know, so we can celebrate this achievement (Clubs do not get notified directly of players who are selected).

It also gives me great pleasure to announce that the U18 BHRDCA team (which included Joshua, Rohan and Cameron) and the U14 Team (which included Kaelan) both won their tournaments. Congratulations to all on this great achievement.

I will have more details and photos on this in the coming weeks.

Nunawading Cricketers at the MCG
As also mentioned in December, we have two opportunities for our cricketers to ‘play on the MCG’. On the Second day of the Boxing Day Test Match, a number of our Junior Blasters played at lunch time.

This Sunday, our two Junior Premiership Teams from last season (U12 and Girls Stage 2 team), will be ‘Walking with the Stars’ prior to the Melbourne Stars v Brisbane Heat game. If you are at the ground, please keep an eye out for them and their Premiership pennants. Thanks to Jean-Paul Lefebure for organising.

Cricket Resumption
· Wednesday 30 January – Commencement of the Girls competition.
· Friday 1 February – Resumption of matches (U12, U14, U16, U18) and Junior Blasters.
· Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 February – Super 7s and Fast 9s will resume.

Coaches/Team Managers will advise all players directly when training resumes.

BBL Memberships
I still have a number of Membership packs, which I will distribute to coaches in the coming weeks.

Additionally, for those who took up my offer of some free tix to the BBL, as mentioned, I only had a few, and they were quickly exhausted.

Nunawading Cricket Club – Junior Christmas/New Year Update

Hi everyone

I hope everyone had a great Christmas, and on behalf of Nunawading Cricket Club, I wish you all a safe and happy 2019.

It was great to see so many people at our Junior Christmas Party – despite the rain. It certainly has been a season of ups and downs weather wise (one like we have not had in a while). Either way though, it is fantastic to see how our junior players are developing and enjoying their cricket.

Big Bash League Memberships
As mentioned previously, all Juniors (excluding Junior Blasters), receive a two game membership to either the Melbourne Stars or Melbourne Renegades. These memberships had been delayed, however I did receive all Memberships over the last weekend (they were all delivered to me).

I have handed a number off to families over the last few days, however if you would like to utilise your child’s membership sooner rather than later, please let contact me – and we can arrange a pick up/collection time.

Alternatively, all Juniors should have received an ‘e ticket’ – via one of your registered email addresses, which can be downloaded and printed. This will work the same way as the membership card, and admit your child to two matches. This email was sent on Wednesday 19 December (directly from the either the Stars or Renegades). If you are not sure which of your email addresses that was sent to, again, please let me know.

Finally – I do have a small number of Adult passes and additional childrens passes to Melbourne Stars/Melbourne Renegades matches. If you would like these, please let me know (first in best dressed). Please only ask if you are definitely planning on attending.

Nunawading Cricket Club Junior Blasters at the MCG
Despite the hot weather, Australia’s struggles with the ball and a pitch that resembled concrete, some of our Junior Basters, entertained the crowd at the MCG yesterday during lunch time. I am sure the crowd were more excited to see Nunawading Crickets out there, than the cricket they were watching………..

This was a great opportunity – many thanks to Daniel (Smudge) and Claire for organising.

Cricket Resumption

Friday 1 February will see the resumption of matches and Junior Blasters. Super 7s and Fast 9s will resume on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 February.

The Girls competition is also expected around this time. (Again, any girls interested in playing a 5-6 week season, please let me know).

Coaches/Team Managers will advise all players directly when training resumes.

NUnawading Cricket Club – Update for Christmas Party Tonight

Hi everyone

A reminder that tonight is our Christmas Party. Regardless of weather, we will be proceeding with pizza, sausages, cold drinks and special presentations. Please everyone, come upstairs to our Club Rooms, and enjoy what will be a great night.

For our Junior Blasters, Super 7s and Fast 9s – remember to bring a present for your child. Santa will be appearing at 6.30pm – 7.00pm.

U18, U12, Super 7s and Junior Blaster Families – as per messages during the week from your Team Managers, for our Christmas Party, we do not put one team on kitchen duty – instead we ask all families from all home teams to do a 30 minute shift of cooking, preparing or serving. I attach the roster as it stands – there are still a few vacant spots. Please let me know if you can assist. Many thanks to those who are listed on the roster, who have advised they can assist.

Team Photos
Jean-Paul Lefebure has also advised that Team Photos will be ready for collection tonight – so please see him to collect them.

If you haven’t ordered, you still can – they look fantastic!!!

Nunawading Cricket Club – Junior Weekly Update

Hi everyone

This Friday is our Christmas Party – it is one of the best nights of the season. Please come up to our club rooms after Matches/training /Junior Blasters – for Piccolino Pizza, sausages, and special presentations. This is always a great way to end the first half of the season – and the weather tomorrow should be perfect.

Christmas Party
Santa will be attending Junior Blasters and Super 7s between 6.30pm and 7.00pm. As mentioned previously, it is ideal if every family is able to buy a present for their own child, wrap it and clearly named. There will be signed areas in the car park towards our club room (probably in the back of cars), where you can leave your presents. If you have any concerns with this – or are unable to provide a present, please let me know.

Siblings are also able to be part of the fun – so if you wish to do the same for non playing brothers and sisters, that is fine.

Also – very happy for our Fast 9s to also participate.

If you are able to make a dessert, to be shared after pizza, please feel free to do so!!

Nunawading Cricket Club on the MCG
We have two upcoming occasions, where Nunawading Juniors will be on the MCG!!

· 27 December 2018 (Day Two Boxing Day Test) – During Lunch time, some of our Junior Blasters will be entertaining the crowd
· 27 January 2019 (Melbourne Stars v Brisbane Heat) – prior to the match, our Premiership winning Junior Teams from last season (U12 and Girls) – celebrating their premierships.

If you are at the MCG on those days, please keep an eye out for them.

Representative Cricket
After many weeks of trials, the following Nunawading Cricketers will be spending the first two weeks of January playing Representative Cricket:

U18 – Joshua Richardson (BHRDCA)
U18 – Cameron Clark (BHRDCA)
U18 – Rohan Roy (BHRDCA)
U16 – Daniel Castelow (RCA)
U15 – James Jessup (Box Hill Shield)
U15 – Max Warburton (Box Hill Shield)

I am aware that other Nunawading players may still be trying out. Additionally, if I have missed anyone, please let me know (clubs do not get advised – we have to find out)!!

We wish all these players the best and congratulate them on their achievemnts to date.

Bunnings BBQ – Vermont South – Boxing Day
We are still looking for a few more hands for our last Bunnings BBQ for the season on Boxing Day at Vermont South.

Ideally, we need another:

  • 1 person for 10am – 12pm
  • 1 person for 12pm – 2pm
  • 3 people for 2pm – 4pm

Please let me know via return email whether you can give us a couple of hours of your time in between watching the test…we will have ABC grandstand on so you won’t miss a ball.

Big Bash League Memberships
Unfortunately, these have not yet arrived – hopefully they will before Friday.

I have been advised though that emails will be received by families with ‘e tickets’, which your Juniors can use to scan into the grounds (in place of the Membership card). If anyone has any queries, please let me know.

Girls Cricket
Our Stage 3 Girls Team, finished the season in third place – essentially missing the Grand Final by 1 run. This is a great achievement by the Girls. It was also great to see 14 girls play in this team throughout the season.

As mentioned last week, the ‘Summer’ season starts in late January – so we are looking for some new Girls to play cricket (aged 8-17). The season is only 5-6 weeks – so a great way to try cricket if you have not played before. We have had some interest already – so if your daughter or friends want to play cricket – please let me know!!

Apparel
All ordered apparel has now arrived – with most handed out. If you have ordered apparel, however have not received it, please let me know.

Nunawading Cricket Club – Junior Weekly Update

Hi everyone – well, the weather this cricket season continues to be all over the place. I am still however, very positive that the rain will finish up today, and we will have a normal night of cricket tomorrow and over the weekend.

As a reminder, all players are expected to attend their matches – unless previously advised otherwise.

Christmas Party
A reminder that Friday 21 December (tomorrow week) is our Christmas Party (invite attached). Santa will be arriving during the Junior Blasters and Super 7s training – and will hand out the presents you supply/bring. To ensure your child does not miss out, please purchase one before hand – and bring it along on the night – clearly named. There will be a dedicated spot for you to leave your present. If you would like your sibling to also receive a present, that is also fine. If you have any issues with this (we are hoping every child will get a present), please let me know and we can work something out.

Unfortunately, Santa will have to leave before our U12, U14, U16 and U18 finish their matches.

It would also be great if our Fast 9s and Girls Team families can join us for the Christmas Party. I know you do not play/train on a Friday, however this really is an important night to come together.

Girls Cricket – New season – new opportunity to play
This season, the Girls competition is split into two separate seasons, namely ‘Spring’ (October-December) and ‘Summer’ (late Jan-early March). Our Girls Stage Three team (who won the premiership last season in Stage 2), are again doing really well on the field this season, with finals a possibility next week. After Christmas, we essentially start another season for the Girls.

This is a great opportunity for Nunawading to try and commence another Girls team. We did try to get a second girls team up before the season started, however were just 1-2 players short. If your daughter (or friends/family) are keen to play cricket on a Wednesday night, please let me know. The commitment will only be for 5-6 weeks – so again, this is a great chance to try cricket. Cricket experience is honestly not required, as the modified rules (as with our Super 7s and Fast 9s) are great for new players to enjoy the game of cricket. In terms of age, I would suggest Girls aged 8-14 are all able to play in this proposed new team.

We are however, also looking for girls aged 12-17 to play in our existing Stage 3 team post Christmas. At the moment, it looks like Stage 3 will be moving to a Sunday competition, so again, if your daughter is interested in playing and wants to try cricket out for a 5-6 week season, please let me know.

Bunnings – Vermont South – Boxing Day
Thanks to the extra 2-3 families who have placed their name on the Bunnings roster for Boxing Day. We are however still short on a number of shifts. This is a great way to fundraise from those outside the club.

Team Update
Whilst at Nunawading, we always focus on Community, fun and development of players, we also do have five teams who play competitive cricket. Below is a quick update on how those teams are travelling:

U18 – On top of the ladder and undefeated. These young men have been playing cricket at Nunawading for many years – many playing senior cricket as well. This coming match is against the second placed team – so will provide another challenge before the Christmas break.

U16 – Have been playing some very good cricket at times, however this has been mixed. The great thing is how the boys are getting on together as a team. A number of boys have also started their senior cricket this season, which is exactly what we are looking for at this age.

Girls Team – as per above, have only lost the one match (by 1 run) in this, the highest level of competition.

U14 – After starting the season with only 10 players, the team have really started to work well together. The team is sitting mid ladder, and are a strong chance to play finals.

U12 – a young team, with most players, still to play in U12 for 1-2 seasons. The team is developing really well – exactly in line with what we were hoping for. These players will be playing senior cricket at Nunawading in the years to come

Fast 9s, Super 7s and Woolworths Junior Blasters – although there are no ladders/competition in these age groups, the development that is occurring is obvious. When combined with the fun that the players are having these children are obviously having a great time. A massive tanks to all coaches and Team Managers in these agge groups (Paul, Dave, Glen/Cara, Jason. Simon/Neroli, Nick, Andrew, Smudge/Claire, Brad, Geoff, Casta – and anyone else I have accidently left off).

Big Bash League Memberships
As per previous notifications, all Juniors at Nunawading (excluding Junior Blasters) will receive a two game membership with either Melbourne Stars or Melbourne Renegades. Your details were provided to the clubs a while ago – however I am led to believe they are now just being processed. Please keep an eye on your emails directly from the Clubs, for information. Whilst the actual membership packs have not yet arrived, confirmation of your membership (and an electronic membership ticket) will be emailed to you (I understand that the Renegades have already done this). Any queries, please let me know.

As per previous weeks, we are running another Bunnings BBQ on Boxing Day. This is a great way to fundraise from those outside the club. Currently the roster only has 4 names on it (across our senior and junior club). With over 250 players, I am sure we can get an additional 12 people. I know many families are away, however if you are still in Melbourne – and can offer two hours, please let me know, or write your name on the roster in our club rooms.

Rep Cricket
A number of our juniors have been spending the last few weeks, trialing for representative cricket. I hope to have a full name of those who have been successful before Christmas (if your child has been successful, please let me know – as clubs are not advised).
