Hi everyone – it was great to have everyone playing cricket last weekend and coming together as a Community. This week, there are numerous important updates below – please read on….. (sorry – I know there is a bit)
Child Safety at Nunawading Cricket Club
Nunawading Cricket Club is committed to ensuring that everyone at Nunawading, including children and young people, participates in our sport free of abuse, harassment, bullying or any other form of inappropriate conduct. Australian Cricket’s ‘Looking After Our Kids’ policy framework, details cricket’s commitment to safeguarding children and young people, and provides other resources in the safeguarding of children and young people in our sport. Cricket Australia’s approach is also outlined via the following link:
Nunawading Cricket Club has two Child Safety Officers, namely:
· Luisa Mackie 0408 368968.
· Brad Gant 0402 267439.
Both Luisa and Brad are long standing members of the Nunawading Cricket Club Community, have three children each – and also are in professions which demand the highest level of of integrity and provide support to the broader community.
As part of our commitment to Child Safety – all of our coaches and team managers are currently going through a certification process and all have current Working-With-Children checks. The club committee and junior coaches will work and monitor diligently to ensure no Child Abuse, Bullying, Harassment, Grooming or neglect that relates to a Child or Young Person takes place in our club.
If you have any concerns, please reach out to our Child Safety Officers, myself (0409 357 642) or Club President, Dave Cowell (0438 569 822)

Season Launch – Nunawading Cricket Club – Junior program
Tomorrow is our season Launch. After matches, training and Junior Blasters – please come upstairs, where we will be having Piccolino Pizza and sausages. Grab a cold drink – and hear not only how our Juniors performed, but some additional special presentations.
Piccolinos have been great supporters of Nunawading for a number of years. They not only sponsor us, but also provide vouchers for our Piccolinos ‘Player of the Week’. If you have not tried Piccolinos before – pop in and say hi to John, Simon and the team. Both the restaurant and the take away are fantastic. Great food, great service. Try them out at 55 Blackburn Rd Mt Waverley.
We will also be having a raffle at our season launch. We only do a raffle a few nights of the year. There is no compulsion to purchase tickets – however feel free to join in the fun!!
U12 Nuna Derby
Before the Season Launch commences – Nuna will have our two U12 teams playing against each other on Bob Saker oval. This is a great opportunity for our 26 juniors in U12, to come together on our main oval. These boys and girls train together – and we hope that in 5-10 years time, these players are enjoying their cricket, are all still great friends and are playing senior cricket together at Nuna. Please pop over tomorrow night – and have a look at how great it is to have the future of Nunawading playing. I am sure Nuna will be the winner – on and off field!!
Womens Big Bash League – and Nunawading Cricket Club
This Sunday 20 October, a number of our girl Junior Blasters are being presented with a fantastic opportunity. During the WBBL Innings Break of the Stars V Hurricanes match, our girls will receive a hat from the fielding side, and given the chance to meet some amazing Stars and Hurricanes Players. If you are at CitiPower Centre, Junction Oval – the match starts at 2.00pm.
Special thanks to our Junior Blasters Coordinator Daniel(Smudge) Smith – who has organised this.
As previously mentioned, on 16 November, we are running the Bunnings BBQ at Vermont South. This is a great way to fundraise from the general public. There is now a roster on the notice board in our Club Rooms (just to the left as you walk in the rooms). Please put your name down for a two hour shift. It is always great fun doing the BBQ. We would also be very keen for our U16/U18 juniors to assist.
Our apparel order placed after Registration Day has arrived. Our Apparel Managers (Paddy and Max) will be able to assist you AFTER matches on Friday night. We still have another order outstanding – so if you have only ordered apparel in the last few weeks – that may still be a few weeks away.
Mount Pleasant Road Primary School – Pleasant Bazaar
One of our local schools – Mt Pleasant Road Primary School and Kindergarden – is having their ‘Pleasant Bazaar’ on Saturday 23 November. Details are attached. There will be some great activities, food and community involvement. Please pop in on the day – and support our local schools. This is another example of how Nuna looks to work with other local community organisations.
