This week is ‘finals week’ for our older Juniors!! Our younger Juniors and Girls team, also continue to play for another week or two.
With this in mind, Friday night will be a great night at Nuna. I strongly encourage our U12 and U16 teams (who have not made finals) to come and support our other teams. Details of where they are playing are listed below. It will be a great night at Mahoneys Reserve, where we will ensure there is plenty of Piccolino Pizza!!!
Our U18 team, finished top of the ladder, and will host a semi final at Bob Saker Oval on Thursday evening and Friday evening this week. A number of these young men started their Junior cricket at Nunawading – as the first players in the ‘then new’ Junior program (when the Juniors were restarted at Nunawading, after a number of years with no Junior program). 11 years on, they have moved from what was then known as Milo In2Cricket – and are now in their final year of Junior Cricket. Obviously, other young men in this team have joined along the way, and made a significant contribution – both on and off the field. Some of these boys are also bottom age U18, so will have another season of junior cricket to go.
Our U14 team finished 4th, and will play Laburnum on Thursday/Friday evening at Kalang Park. This is a great achievement by the team, as at the start of the season, it looked as though they may only have 8-9 players. We hope the new families to this team, have enjoyed their time at Nuna. A number of these boys in this team won the U12B Grand Final last season at Nuna, so have some finals experience.
We wish both teams all the best – and look forward to hearing how you went on Friday Night. As mentioned above, please come and support these teams on Thursday and Friday evenings!! Everyone is very much welcome!!
Our Junior Blasters will have their final session this Friday, while our Super 7s will be training on Friday as well, as usual. Our Girls and Fast 9s still also have a week or two to go.
Congratulations Lachlan Day
Speaking of U18s, Lachlan Day (one of our U18s – who has also played seniors at Nuna, including in our First XI), has been unable to play in the second half of the season. This however has been due to the fact that he has just completed his 4 week ‘Year 1 Officer Familiarisation Training’ in Canberra. This culminated on the weekend, in the Chief of Defence Force Parade, at the Australian Defence Force Academy in Canberra. Lachlan will now commence a Bachelor of Business Degree, whilst continuing military training for three years, before a final fourth year at the Royal Military College Duntroon – where he will graduate as a Lieutenant in the Australian Army. Last weekend, Lachlan’s family were able to celebrate together, in Canberra, where I am told Lachlan’s Nunawading Cricket Club bag (in fantastic Purple and Gold), was dropped off to him. Lachlan will be playing cricket during winter against the Navy, Airforce and other Universities – where his branded Nuna bag will be there with him!!!
Congratulations Lachlan – we wish you all the best. Nunawading will always be your home, that you can return to whenever you like. I know you will be cheering on the U18s in the finals. It is also great to see – especially for our younger Juniors – to know what can be achieved via hard work and dedication.

Cricket in 2019/2020 at Nuna
We are still looking for families to assist with helping run the Junior Club next season. To keep the club running, ‘We Need You’!!! – If you have an interest in helping out, please let myself or Dave Cowell (Club President know) – we can certainly ensure whatever role you take on, you will not be having to do too much. Please let us know what you can offer!!!!
