Hi everyone – well, the weather this cricket season continues to be all over the place. I am still however, very positive that the rain will finish up today, and we will have a normal night of cricket tomorrow and over the weekend.
As a reminder, all players are expected to attend their matches – unless previously advised otherwise.
A reminder that Friday 21 December (tomorrow week) is our Christmas Party (invite attached). Santa will be arriving during the Junior Blasters and Super 7s training – and will hand out the presents you supply/bring. To ensure your child does not miss out, please purchase one before hand – and bring it along on the night – clearly named. There will be a dedicated spot for you to leave your present. If you would like your sibling to also receive a present, that is also fine. If you have any issues with this (we are hoping every child will get a present), please let me know and we can work something out.
Unfortunately, Santa will have to leave before our U12, U14, U16 and U18 finish their matches.
It would also be great if our Fast 9s and Girls Team families can join us for the Christmas Party. I know you do not play/train on a Friday, however this really is an important night to come together.
Girls Cricket – New season – new opportunity to play
This season, the Girls competition is split into two separate seasons, namely ‘Spring’ (October-December) and ‘Summer’ (late Jan-early March). Our Girls Stage Three team (who won the premiership last season in Stage 2), are again doing really well on the field this season, with finals a possibility next week. After Christmas, we essentially start another season for the Girls.
This is a great opportunity for Nunawading to try and commence another Girls team. We did try to get a second girls team up before the season started, however were just 1-2 players short. If your daughter (or friends/family) are keen to play cricket on a Wednesday night, please let me know. The commitment will only be for 5-6 weeks – so again, this is a great chance to try cricket. Cricket experience is honestly not required, as the modified rules (as with our Super 7s and Fast 9s) are great for new players to enjoy the game of cricket. In terms of age, I would suggest Girls aged 8-14 are all able to play in this proposed new team.
We are however, also looking for girls aged 12-17 to play in our existing Stage 3 team post Christmas. At the moment, it looks like Stage 3 will be moving to a Sunday competition, so again, if your daughter is interested in playing and wants to try cricket out for a 5-6 week season, please let me know.
Bunnings – Vermont South – Boxing Day
Thanks to the extra 2-3 families who have placed their name on the Bunnings roster for Boxing Day. We are however still short on a number of shifts. This is a great way to fundraise from those outside the club.
Whilst at Nunawading, we always focus on Community, fun and development of players, we also do have five teams who play competitive cricket. Below is a quick update on how those teams are travelling:
U18 – On top of the ladder and undefeated. These young men have been playing cricket at Nunawading for many years – many playing senior cricket as well. This coming match is against the second placed team – so will provide another challenge before the Christmas break.
U16 – Have been playing some very good cricket at times, however this has been mixed. The great thing is how the boys are getting on together as a team. A number of boys have also started their senior cricket this season, which is exactly what we are looking for at this age.
Girls Team – as per above, have only lost the one match (by 1 run) in this, the highest level of competition.
U14 – After starting the season with only 10 players, the team have really started to work well together. The team is sitting mid ladder, and are a strong chance to play finals.
U12 – a young team, with most players, still to play in U12 for 1-2 seasons. The team is developing really well – exactly in line with what we were hoping for. These players will be playing senior cricket at Nunawading in the years to come
Fast 9s, Super 7s and Woolworths Junior Blasters – although there are no ladders/competition in these age groups, the development that is occurring is obvious. When combined with the fun that the players are having these children are obviously having a great time. A massive tanks to all coaches and Team Managers in these agge groups (Paul, Dave, Glen/Cara, Jason. Simon/Neroli, Nick, Andrew, Smudge/Claire, Brad, Geoff, Casta – and anyone else I have accidently left off).
