Nunawading Cricket Club – Junior Weekly Update

Hi everyone – a short – BUT VERY IMPORTANT update this week!!

Nunawading Cricket Club playing Finals.

As mentioned last week, Nunawading had four teams playing finals last week. This was a huge achievement – and a great outcome for everyone at Nunawading.

Unfortunately, our U14B team were not quite able to progress to the Grand Final. After bowling well in the first innings, our first innings batting fell away a little. On saying that, as is the Nuna way – we were not done yet. Coach Dave Cowell, used all of his cricket experience to try for a ‘reverse Outright’. Our boys went in and after some quick hitting – set a small target. After some great bowling by Nuna – we very close to doing the unthinkable – however after only being three wickets away, Laburnum steadied and won through.

Girls Team

Our Girls team played last Wednesday, and under the coaching of Chris Baensch have won through to a Grand Final. This is such a massive achievement. The Girls are now the first ever Nunawading Girls Team to reach a GF. The best part of this is just how much the Girls love playing cricket – and how their friendships have developed.

U12B

Under the coaching of Jean-Paul Lefebure, our undefeated U12B boys and Girls, won the semi final last week, and will now be playing a home Grand Final. This is also a sensational result for all involved and well deserved. Our players were challenged in their semi final last week, and will need to ensure that their focus remains high – while just as importantly ensuring they enjoy this experience. Well done again

U18

After being in a difficult position on the first day of their semi final last week, the boys successfully defended a total of 143. Coach Ken Rose’meyer was always (rightfully) upbeat, and even as the game was down to the wire, he remained confident!!

Nunawading therefore has three teams in Grand Finals this week – details are as follows:

Girls Team – Wednesday 14 March – 5.00pm – Hislop Park Balwyn

U12B – Thursday/Friday this week – 5.00pm – Bob Saker Oval, Mahoneys Reserve

U18 – Wednesday/Friday this week – 5.00pm – at Heatherdale

We wish all our players all the best and congratulate you all on reaching this far. Win or lose – we know you will have fun – and represent yourselves, your families and your club in the best way.

On Friday night, we will have food in the Club rooms, where everyone is welcome to come back – and hear how our Grand Finalists performed.
