Nunawading Cricket Club – Junior Weekly Update

Hi everyone – Well Friday night looks like it will be another great night. With all of our ovals back in use, it will be great to see so many children enjoying their cricket at Mahoney’s Reserve again. Please come back to our club rooms afterwards as usual for match presentations. This week we will be having pasta from Piccolino’s pasta and sausages.

Nunawading Cricket Club – ‘The Friendly Club’
All Nunawading CC families should feel very proud and happy after hearing on Friday night, Andrew ‘Blewey’ Siebel provide his update on the U10 Purple Team. Blewey – who I know takes great pride in ensuring that the game of cricket is respected and that our players understand sportsmanship – advised us all of some feedback he received when umpiring last Wednesday night. In short, one of the opposition players approached Blewey and said ‘what a nice friendly club we are’. This was from an U10 boy. These are the things that we should all be proud of, as it goes to the heart of what we are trying to create at Nunawading. Blewey has taught his team (and the U10 Gold team who all train together) some great things this season – both cricketing skills and also how to be a good sport (clapping opposition batsmen off the ground is just one example). Thank you Blewey and thank you to all the U10 Purple players and families. These are fantastic qualities.

Father/Son/Mother/Daughter match
Further to my email last week, on Sunday 19 February, we are looking to have a Father, Mother, Daughter, Son cricket match at Mahoneys Reserve against Blackburn Cricket Club. This event was held last with great success and enjoyment by all who attended. Unfortunately, at the moment I have not had enough interest to make this happen. I also know however that Blackburn are ready to go!!!. If any Junior and their parent is interested in playing, please let me know ASAP!! I would prefer not to have to cancel this event…..

Player performances
In recent weeks, some of our older juniors have made some really big scores!! Cameron Clark has made a century this season in the U16s, and Josh Richardson has also made a century in the U18s and in the seniors ‘third team’. Last Friday night, we had another exceptional performance. Daniel Castelow, playing in the U14A team, retired on 60 not out. After the team lost all the other wickets, Daniel came back in and finished on 130 not out!! Bailey MacPhie batted with Daniel for the last wicket, supporting him well, and made 35 (including some nice BBL type hitting). Congratulations to Daniel. This is a fantastic effort.

#beinvolved members of the week
Whilst I am very conscious of not turning this important section into ‘mutual admiration’ (thanks for your kind words a few weeks ago Jean-Paul whilst I was away), I would like to list the Lefebure family as the #beinvolved members of the week. Jasmine plays in the U15 Girls team and Harrison in the U12B team. Jasmine has also played in the U12B team when they have been short of players and Harrison has also sub fielded (and took a great catch) in a senior match!! Both Harrison and Jasmine, help out regularly around the club, in many ways, including putting away rubbish on a Friday night and making sure everything is in its place. Amanda is also fantastic, in the way she supports the club. Whether it be helping organise the Trivia night, running out to the shops at late notice to buy something, and even transporting people to and from the club!! Then there is Jean-Paul (JP). Not only does JP help me with the management of the Juniors, he is on the Club Committee, organises social activities for the club, managed the whole Club photos, is captain of the fifths senior team – and also coaches the U12B team. Thanks to the Lefebures.

If anyone has an individual or family they would like to have acknowledged in this section, please let me know. As I said before Christmas, I know there are many people who do so much for the club – and I do risk leaving people off. What we are trying to do here though, is show that if everyone can contribute just that little bit, we will make our club even greater and more enjoyable!!
