Hi everyone – a number of important updates for this week (sorry, there are a few)!!
This Friday night looks to be perfect weather for cricket and to then come together afterwards for our Christmas party. If you have not yet RSVP’d but plan on coming, please let me know (obviously, feel free to come along if you have not yet RSVP’d ). If you want your child to receive a present from Santa (historically most children do), please ensure you bring a present (max $10-$15) and clearly named. Santa will be attending as follows on the night:
· Milo – 7.00pm on the soccer ground
· U10 – approx. 7.15-7.30pm (following from Milo) – both U10 teams play each other on the top ground
We will then all go upstairs for a bite to eat and cold drink. Santa I understand will then return to see all of our U12, U14, U16 and girls team at around 8.30pm – 8.45pm. When you arrive on the night, there will be three different cars in the car park, where you can leave your presents. They will be clearly marked (Milo, U10 and U12, U14, U16 and Girls). If you also are able to bring a salad or dessert, please let me know!!
Rep Cricket – U12 Girls
As advised a couple of weeks ago, Nunawading has had 5xU16, 1xU14, 1xU16 Girls and 1xU14 Girls selected to play representative cricket over the holidays. I am now able to advise that three Nunawading girls, Sierra Maharaj, Rituja Talekar and Vaishnavi Munukutla, have been selected to play in the U12 Girls Box Hill Reporter team. These girls will be defending the title which Box Hill Reporter won last season. We wish these girls well, together with Lachlan, Cameron, Ethan, Josh and Rohan (U16), Flynn (U14), Tahlia (U16 Girls) and Priyanka (U14 Girls).
Renegades adult memberships
Further to my email last week, not all of the adult memberships for the Renegades matches have been claimed. If you are interested in going to one of the Renegades home matches (23/12, 30/12, 9/1, 18/1), and would
like free access to General Admission, please let me know. These can be used in conjunction with the memberships your children have already received. For those of you who have already requested tickets, I will be in touch soon with details on how to get the membership cards to you.
We are looking at running a summer camp during the school holidays as follows:
· U10, U12 and Girls team (11 January – 13 January) 9.00am – 12.00pm
· U14 and U16 (15 January – 17 January) 9.00am – 12.00pm
This camp will be run by Nunawading’s Senior coach and U16 coach Buddy Mendis. I will advise further details, including costs next week. Buddy will be supported by other qualified Cricket coaches.
Lal Jayasinghe – School Holiday Program
Also, further to my post match announcement last week, Lal is running a cricket coaching program this weekend (flyer attached). Many of you will know Lal, for the Coach the Coaches sessions he has run, together with coaching he has provided to our U14, U12 and Milo children so far this year. If interested, please contact Lal as per the flyer.
Toyata Good for Cricket raffle
Nunawading is registered in the ‘Toyota Good for Cricket raffle’. This will be the clubs only fundraising for the season. Tickets are $5 each, however the great news is that not only does Nunawading receive all $5
from every ticket sold, by purchasing the ticket you get the chance to win some great prizes, including cars, and signed cricket merchandise .Tomorrow night, we will have the raffle books at the club, and I will
be asking all teams if they are able to sell some tickets over the holiday period.
It was great to see fathers and sons playing together in the club’s fifths team on Saturday. Representing Nunawading in this team was Peter and Lachlan Jessup, Brad and Aidan Gant, Chris and Flynn Maguire and Mal, Patrick and Jayden West. A team photo is on the home page of the website. It was also great to see Jayden bring up his first 50 for the club.
Team update – U16
Our U16 team continues to have great success on the field, and so far this season is undefeated on top of the ladder. A number of these young men have been playing cricket at Nunawading for the last 5-10 years (Patrick, Aditya, Cameron, Aidyn, David, Joshua, Rohan and Zach).
Additionally, it is great to have new families and players join the club in recent years (Harris, Andrew, Lachlan, Eric, Ethan). Buddy (coach) and Tim (Assistant) are very happy with the performance of the boys to date, and how they are progressing. Given that most of the boys are bottom age, their results are very strong. This is also demonstrated by selection of players playing rep cricket this season and also the majority of boys playing senior cricket at Nuna. The U16 boys come back a week earlier than the other teams after Christmas (22/1/16), so if you are not doing anything on that evening, it would be great to get some support for the boys at Doncaster.
Sorry, I know that’s a bit this week. I will remain in contact over the holidays to let everyone know what is happening at Nunawading, and when matches and training resume.
