Nunawading Cricket Club – Weekly Junior Update

Hi everyone – What a great week it has been for Nunawading!!

The atmosphere at the club was fantastic on Friday night. It was great to see so many of us there – enjoying our children’s sport!! Friday night was also the culmination of the semi-finals matches for our U14A and U12B teams. We also had a very enjoyable and fun filled U10/Anklbytr match played between our two Nunawading teams on Friday night!! Special thanks to everyone involved in putting on the chicken, potatoes, salad, rice and hot dogs on Friday – which was enjoyed by all!!

Match Results

U14A – After scoring 194 on Wednesday night, our boys bowled and fielded very well, and restricted Glen Waverley to 162 on Friday – to obtain a well-deserved win. This is a strong result for Buddy and the boys. With the top placed team Heatherdale losing their semi-final, our boys are hosting Blackburn on Wednesday and Friday nights this week at Bob Saker Oval (Mahoneys Reserve – 5.00pm start on both nights). Please again come down and support the boys, as they will give it their all!! We will be opening up the club rooms on Friday night for some food and drink and post-match summary.

U12B – The boys put up a great effort against Park Orchards. Whilst the scoreboard did not provide the result the boys wanted, the development of the boys throughout the season shows just how successful these boys have been under Russ’s coaching. Everyone was very proud of their achievements, which will position them nicely for next season. Playing finals is a great effort – and there are many teams who would have loved the opportunity to play what our boys thoroughly deserved!!

U10/Anklbytr – It was great to see Jean-Paul and Jordan schedule this additional match for our boys and girls to play against each other. The great news is that Nunawading won!!!! Not only did this match give everyone the chance to play one more game, it also helped create a great atmosphere at the club – with so many families staying on to support!! I’m looking forward to seeing all of the boys and girls back next season to continue enjoying their cricket!!

Presentation Day – Sunday 22 March

Invitation attached again. It looks like we will have a big turnout!!! Please RSVP if you have not yet done so.

Senior Update

Our seniors had four teams in the semi-finals. The great news is the firsts have made it through to the Grand Final (which will be played at the neutral venue of East Burwood this Saturday and Sunday afternoon). Unfortunately our 2nds, 3rds and 5ths were not able to get the results. From a junior perspective however, it was great to see 4 of our U14 boys, 2 boys who will be playing U16 next season, and also junior coaches and parents playing in 5ths for this finals match. Special mention to Aditya Munukutla, who took 7/32. A pretty good effort for an U14 boy playing against men!!
