This Week in Junior Cricket
Amidst humidity and fly blown conditions last week we still managed to get 5 teams out on the park and achieve some important results. Two teams are in serious finals contention with one round remaining in the competitive grades.
Please note that some rain has been forecast for Friday. Unless notified by Rob or myself the expectation for your child to attend their game remains. Please do not contact Rob or myself during the day to ask if play will go ahead because basically we will have no idea. If conditions are such that play is highly unlikely due to rain then the BHRDCA will notify us and we will notify you via the NCC Smart Phone app. If you do not have the app please see below:
Unless advised otherwise please attend the games in readiness for play.

Another great turnout with both Ankylbyter teams back on the field this week. Dylan reports that the Blackbeards are improving each week and he is being ably helped by parents and Jordan. Chris filled in for Wayne this week who was unavailable and again the reports on the kids are fantastic and we are looking toward next season for the next batch of under 12s.
What is really pleasing is that Chris was so eager and able to step up and is clearly indicative of the great club we have. Thanks Chris
A massive thanks to Chris Baensch, who coached the boys this week, as Wayne was unwell. The boys continue to do really well, and have a solid season of U10 behind them (some boys have two), to tackle U12 competitive cricket next year. Gobi has fitted into the team nicely, Jeremy continues to play well, Josh is firing when bowling – and Lachlan’s throwing in the field is first class!! This week, Harrison Lefebure – who has been playing Milo Cricket will be playing with the boys. Also, the boys will be on Bob Saker Oval – so please come out and support the boys – and the Milo boys and girls who will be doing their best on the side.
Again, it is great to see the boys doing so well. Nunawading’s future is looking strong. Kaelan’s bowling is very sound and is continuing to prove difficult to play. Max’s all round game is also very strong. Noel and Daniel who joined the team mid season, have fitted right in. Again, massive thanks to Dylan who is coaching the boys – and Tamara for all her efforts in Team Managing the team. Also, thanks to everyone who helped out with a great BBQ last week!
Boys played really well – with a number of personal highlights. Ryan Mackie, Ruben Dew and Michael Woodford all hit their first four – and then all hit their second fours in this match!! Michael Woodford also took his first wicket – clean bowling the batsmen. Lachlan Richards and max Warburton did well with the bat – remaining not out and making good runs. Dane Travers in the field was very solid. The boys did not win, but will be a force to reckon with next year
U 12 Blackbeards
After starting this game of well in the first week the lads really drove home the advantage and a great knock by Flynn McGuire with support from Aidan Gant, Lachlan Ahearn and Collin McDonough the boys took a 70 run lead into Blackburn South’s innings but they had only 4 wickets in hand. Some excellent bowling by Kevin, Flynn and Max and an amazing catch by Kieran saw the lads bring home the result and storm into the 4. They take on 2nd placed Glen Waverley Hawks whilst the hot on their heels Surrey Hills face the bottom team at home. Our destiny is in our own hands.
Chasing 163 the boys batted well and in partnerships with Richo leading the way backed up by a Patty West captains knock of 27 and another solid effort from David Cowell as well as Lachlan Jessup. The great thing about this run chase was that everyone contributed and whilst it got a bit tight at the end the steady nerve of veteran Aidan Malojer saw us pass the total with a few overs to spare and cement a top 4 spot going into the final round. The boys are almost assured a finals berth unless 5th placed Glen Waverley Hawks have a huge win against the 2nd placed Heatherdale Blue. Amazingly going into the final round both Heatherdale teams seem to , yet again, have an ominous home ground advantage.
Congratulations to Luke Vazquez on taking 4 wickets in the 4th XI on Saturday, in fact of the 8 wickets to fall 7 of them were taken by Under 14s players (Patty West – 2, Luke – 4 and Dave Cowell -1)
Another fantastic turnout on a beautiful evening with 22 kids out there all having a ball and a future star of the club discovered. Importantly there were, again, many parent helpers on hand as well.
This Week’s Games
This week we have only the two Ankylbyter teams at home with the 12 Blackbeards and Under 14s fighting to keep their spot and play finals. If we can get both teams in it would be a great achievement.

Kits & Personal Equipment
Each team has a playing kit for match days. The Ankylbyter teams also have a training kit. Coaches and team managers should assume responsibility for the upkeep of the kits. They are sorted prior to season commencement in a long and arduous process so can coaches and team managers please ensure the kits are packed and put away in the storage cage at the conclusion of each week’s play. Match balls for Under 12s & 14s will be given to the respective team coaches prior to the first week of each game. If you require any assistance with access to equipment please see Ken or Darren.
Parents – please clearly label your child’s personal equipment with their name. Any equipment found without a name may be lost permanently or inadvertently placed in a team kit. Also please ensure personal kits are placed well away from club kits at games and training.
Weekly Catering Roster
You should have received your team’s catering roster by now. If not please speak to your team manager or Rob Nash. Should we host a home final please watch out for updated catering rosters.
How can I help my club?
