Another week of Nunawading cricket with 6 teams across 3 age groups representing the club from Milo through to Under 14s. Finally some decent weather for the kids to strut their stuff and even more new players and families to the club. A big welcome to Athos (12 Blackbeards), Christos and parents Jim and Georgia. Great to have you with us and I hope you enjoy the Nuna experience.
U14s – were at Heatherdale who remain tough and again were a bit too good. We’re getting a little tired of going out there and returning empty handed so we plan to ramp it up at this level and give the kids the best chance of delivering a much sought after premiership. Great efforts by all kids who are really doing well under the tutelage of Darcy who reeled off a lazy 40+ and bowled out the closing overs in Nunawading’s close win over Kew in tonight’s 20/20 game at Bob Saker
U12 Blackbeards – Quite simply a great game of junior cricket to watch. The boys worked hard in the field and there was some excellent bowling from Tom “Suds” Wharton. The runs were chased down really well by Lachlan Ahearn, Big Kev and Aidan “The Rock” Gant who steered the Pirates home to a close win.
Ankylbyter Blackbeards – Guys – really disappointing that we are not commencing games on time. Buddhika would really like parents to have their kids at the ground for a 5.00pm start. It is great that such a dedicated senior player is committing his time to the kids and they can learn so much from him.
Ankylbyter Buccaneers – Great game played by all. Boys really gelling well. Nicholas Bould, Ewen Hutter and Lachlan Baensch all continuing to show great improvement all round.
Milo In2Cricket – the boys and girls were busy on Friday night and clearly love the program Paul is running. There were 24 kids out there giving their all and it was great to see Douglas Ahearn and Lucas Dew helping out.
Friday 29 November – Nunawading Pirates Famous Curry Night
Curry Night is Friday 29 November 2013. This is where we ask our families to provide a curry or make some rice for serving on the night. If you fancy yourself as a curry king or queen give it your best shot. Can you please let Rob & I know if you can make a curry or bring along a rice cooker and make some rice on the night.
So far we have 6 curries committed. Nowhere near enough. Please guys this is a highlight of our season. Please volunteer to Rob and I today.
Team Managers will coordinate servings and assistance on the night. Just in case you don’t enjoy a curry there should be a BBQ as well.

Ken and I will be ramping up the one/one coaching leading into the Christmas break to enable kids the best chance to improve. We will be starting with the U14s and working our way down with the theme being batting to build an innings that being working players through their innings staring with batting in the V. Bowling will be about bowling one side of the pitch and reinforcing the “Limitation Cricket” philosophy of the club.
This will be conducted during and sometimes after training. If you would like an individual Sunday session for your child with me this can be arranged at a convenient time for a small fee such as cordial, ice and icy poles into the club coffers.
Junior Dads for Senior Cricket
If there are any Dad’s of Junior Nunawading Cricketers out there who have the slightest desire to play some cricket on a Saturday afternoon, please Rob me know.
The Nunawading Cricket Club’s (our club) senior team, is somewhat short on numbers in the lead up to Christmas. The fourth team and One day team in particular would love to hear from anyone who is able to play even just one week.
It doesn’t matter what you believe your ability is, if you have been thinking about it, now is the time to put your hand up – please!! Come and join some great blokes (some who are Junior parents), and have a hit.

First year players play free after that there is the expectation that unless families are in financial difficulty that subs will be paid.
Player Subscriptions: $100 per child, $10 discount if sibling is enrolled for Milo In2CRICKET
Note: All new players play free for their first season.
Family Membership: $190 (2 players or more).
Test Series Update: Australia 1 – England 0. Go Aussies (apologies to our English families)
Kits & Personal Equipment
Each team has a playing kit for match days. The Ankylbyter teams also have a training kit. Coaches and team managers should assume responsibility for the upkeep of the kits. They are sorted prior to season commencement in a long and arduous process so can coaches and team managers please ensure the kids are packed and put away in the storage cage at the conclusion of each week’s play. Match balls for Under 12s & 14s will be given to the respective team coaches prior to the first week of each game. If you require any assistance with access to equipment please see Ken or Darren.
Parents – please clearly label your child’s personal equipment with their name. Any equipment found without a name may be lost permanently or inadvertently placed in a team kit. Also please ensure personal kits are placed well away from club kits at games and training.
Weekly Catering Roster
You should have received your team’s catering roster by now. If not please speak to your team manager or Rob Nash.
Coming Soon – Father & Son challenge versus Blackburn CC – Sunday January 19 – 2014 on Bob Saker Oval
This will be an annual challenge between these two cricket clubs where current father & son combinations from the top age group of Nunawading (U14s) will play a challenge game for the Paul Callanan Cup. Paul has been a great servant of both clubs and this is a way to continue to foster relationships between these two clubs as well as recognise Paul’s efforts and pit the kids and dads against each other in cricketing combat. More details to follow.
How can I help my club?
Whenever you’re doing your weekly shopping how about picking up a couple of bottles of home brand cordial. It’s only about $2.50 a bottle and it ensures we always have a drink on hand for the teams on game days. Also a bag of ice never goes stray so if you’re getting petrol on the way to the ground how about grab a bag of ice and place it in the freezer in the kitchen. Icy poles are another great treat for after games.
